Microsoft made a few changes recently and the current XboxFriends for the Desktop is not working as expected. I am in the process of getting these changes incorporated and will have a new version up as soon as possible.

I've uploaded v.60 to handle the Xbox.com changes that occured this morning. If you notice any problems, please let me know in the forums. (Also, this update includes a slight speed improvement during startup for the HTTP Notifications that uses the recently added tags.)

You can now download XboxFriends for the Desktop without having to create an account here on XboxFriends.com. However, in order to interact with the rest of the XboxFriends community (forums, etc.), you'll have to create an account to post content.

A few new additions and enhancements. When hovering over the notification icon, you can now see how many people are online and actively playing. The HTTP Notification feature has added a few more tags that can be utilized.

This version works on Windows Vista (x64). There are a couple of things you'll need to make sure of though:

After installing XBF, browse to the (default install folder, modify accordingly) C:\Program Files (x86)\XboxFriends.com folder. In here you'll see the XboxFriends folder. Right click on it and select Properties. In the properties dialog, select the Security tab. Click on the Edit button. Say yes to the UAC prompt. Scroll down in the upper list and select "Users". In the lower list, check the Full Control Allow checkbox (which will automatically select all of the other checkboxes) and click the OK button. This will allow XboxFriends to automatically update whenever a new version is available. This is also true for the 32-bit version of Windows Vista.
Launch the 32-bit version of IE and browse to the Xbox.com website. Make sure you have the Flash Player add-in installed.

This version also includes a few minor improvements for those running Windows XP (mostly visual).

There were a few more changes necessary in order to work with the recent Xbox.com "maintenance". I ran this version and the previous side by side for over 24 hours and this version did not experience the same issue(s) as the previous. ;-) So hopefully I've tracked down all the change points. Again, please let me know if you continue to experience any problem with this version.

I'm working through getting XboxFriends for the Desktop to integrate with the recent changes that have occured with the latest Xbox.com "upgrade". As soon as I have it updated, I'll post another update.

A quick release to correct an apparent problem regarding a international issue in the options dialog... hopefully I tackled it, but will have to wait until I hear back from someone who uses a date format different than the US (not really sure how noone seemed to encounter this issue until now).

Since I was working within the options dialog, I've new finished the game selection tab so you can specify what games you have.

A minor update that improves the overall "performance" of the gamercard display by caching some of the information. It also fixes the right mouse not hiding the display (yes, you can right click on the gamercard to hide it).

.44 calibre and loaded! No, it's not a Desert Eagle, it's the new release of XboxFriends for the Desktop. An initial version of the long awaited and highly anticipated "history" feature is back! In order to accomidate this new information, the automatic "tooltip" style gamercard is now a thing of the past. When you click on any gamertag, a new (attached) window will be displayed containing the gamercard information, gameplay history, GamerScoreChart.com gamer score history graph, GamertagPics.com profile check (and link).

Yes, I still have more work to do in this area, but I'm sure you'll enjoy what's there now. And no, this version does not include the shared history feature; that's coming soon as well. So if you want to build a history of your friends... you need to keep XBF running.

As always, I'm eager to hear feedback... so start posting in the forums with enhancement ideas, tweaks, complaints and what not.

New Site Features

In an effort to continue building the XboxFriends community, the community site has made a few improvements. Among these is the new Tagging feature that allows you to attach tags to forum posts. You can see this on the home page (and in the forums) under the Tagged section located in the right hand column. You can now score points by participating in the various activities on the website such as rating and commenting on news, posting blog entries (for those that have blogs), creating/responding/rating of forum posts, etc. The more you participate, the more you score. Not only does this grant you bragging rights and shows other users that you are active in this community, I should let you know that some interesting things (possibly prizes) will be coming in the future. So, to help help you out in having something to discuss, there are several new forums categories created so you can discuss topics other than XboxFriends.com and XboxFriends for the Desktop. So what are you waiting for?
